The 5101 PCI synchronous serial interface

adapter provides the PC with a single channel

high-speed multi-protocol serial interface suitable

for many popular communications protocols. The

board utilizes the Z16C32 (IUSC) with built-in

DMA controller to eliminate bus bandwidth

constraints, allowing data rates to reach 10M bps

in burst mode. By utilizing the Z16C32s 32 byte

FIFO buffer coupled with 256K bytes of onboard

memory, the 5101 synchronous serial interface

adapter achieves high data rates without

increasing processor overhead.
